The United Nations recognises the 12th of August as the International Youth Day, this will be the 19th year that the United Nation celebrates female and male youth between the ages of 10 and 24. This year, the theme is “Safe Spaces for Youth”.
I’m Sthuthi Satish, a 15-year old girl in science, from India. This is what I believe safe spaces should provide and practice:
Today’s youth require safe spaces to help enrich their passion, additionally, provide guidance and academic help, to aid them pursue a career of their interest, whether it be the sciences, humanities or commerce. Ideally, these spaces should also help foster and grow working and professional relationships between youths from diverse culture, background, ethnicity, race, etc. Hopefully, they will also be able to minimize the amount of bullying, harassment and prejudice the youth face.”
